Fad Diets and Healthy Eating

Fast weightlosss, that restricts the food you can eat and you put all of the weight back on, or slow, steady weightloss that stays off for good. Which one would you rather have?

Fad diets and healthy eating don’t really go well together. Although the diet may claim to be healthy, it is likely to cut out food high in various nutrients. For example, weight watchers rates fruit quite highly due to the natural sugar, and also seeds and nuts which are very very good for you. Atkins on the other hand (Low carb, high fat) should be avoided at all costs!

If you eat healthily there is no need to go on diets that claim you can lose a stone every day, this is just nonsense. First and foremost, your diet should be giving your all the nutrients your body needs such as vitamins and minerals. This will be made up from largely fruit and vegetables but there is plenty of other room for fish,meats and more.

More importantly, some fad diets have monthly subscription fee’s that you pay at meetings or online and they entitle you to free weigh-in’s and information. A lot of the hosts however are NOT qualified dieticians and are merely giving opinions on what you should be doing. You would be far better off spending the money on your own set of scales with body fat readings, or a new bike, new trainers or something that you can use and will benefit from when exercising.

If you have even thought to yourself “Are Fad Diets Dangerous?” then it depends on which angle you view it from. They have to make sure there are no casualties from following the diets, although with Atkins this is somewhat questionable, but bear in mind some diet related illnesses may not be apparant until later on in life. Also, some recommend taking a range of vitamin supplements to make sure you are not deficient, but surely if their diet was up to standard you would be getting everything you need from the food you are allowed to eat?

It makes you wonder….. I totally advise sticking well clear of any fad diets and focus your efforts on eating a healthy balanced diet with plenty of exercise. I totally agree with what you say about fad diets – you shouls start a campaign against them lol! I have just got you free tips and am going to read them now.
